Approaches & Interventions
Tailored just for you…
At Wellness Group of California Family Therapy, Inc. (WGCA), we believe therapy should reflect your individual needs, experiences, and goals. Our approach is client-centered and collaborative. We take time to understand what brings you to therapy, what matters to you, and what you hope to change.
Our clinicians may integrate strategies from several therapeutic approaches based on your needs, preferences, and their training. Together, we will develop a personalized treatment plan and adjust our work as your needs evolve.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT explores how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. When you are struggling, patterns such as expecting the worst, criticizing yourself, or avoiding uncomfortable situations can make distress harder to manage.
Through CBT, you can learn to recognize these patterns, consider more balanced perspectives, and practice responses that support your well-being. Sessions may include practical exercises, problem-solving, and skills to try between appointments. CBT can help address concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, and low self-esteem.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)–Informed Skills
DBT-informed care combines acceptance of your current experience with skills that support change. It can be especially helpful when emotions feel overwhelming or when distress affects your decisions, relationships, or ability to cope.
Your therapist may help you practice mindfulness, manage strong emotions, tolerate difficult moments, and communicate your needs more effectively. These skills can help you respond with greater intention and navigate challenges with more confidence and self-compassion.
Psychodynamic Therapy
Psychodynamic therapy explores how earlier experiences, relationships, and emotional patterns may influence your present life. Sometimes, ways of coping that once helped you can become patterns that leave you feeling stuck.
Through thoughtful exploration, your therapist can help you recognize recurring themes, understand your emotional responses, and become more aware of needs or feelings that may be difficult to express. This understanding can support greater self-awareness and more flexibility in how you relate to yourself and others.
Emotion-Focused Interventions
Emotion-focused interventions help you identify, understand, and work through your emotions. Feelings such as sadness, anger, fear, or shame can offer information about your needs, boundaries, and experiences—even when those feelings are uncomfortable.
Your therapist may help you put words to what you feel, explore what is beneath an emotional reaction, and develop more compassionate ways of responding. This work can support emotional expression, help you process painful experiences, and strengthen your ability to communicate your needs.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Solution-focused therapy emphasizes your strengths, available resources, and the changes you want to see in your life. While your concerns are acknowledged, sessions also explore moments when a problem feels less intense and what makes those moments different.
Your therapist will help you identify what is already working, define realistic goals, and build on small steps forward. This practical approach can help you recognize your capabilities and create manageable changes in everyday life.
Mindfulness and Whole-Person Care
Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment with curiosity and less judgment. Your therapist may introduce grounding, breathing, or awareness exercises to help you notice thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without immediately reacting to them.
Our whole-person perspective also considers how sleep, daily routines, physical health, relationships, culture, spirituality, and personal values may affect your emotional well-being. Together, we can explore supportive habits and coping strategies that fit your life, comfort level, and preferences.
A Supportive, Collaborative Space
You do not need to know which approach is right for you before starting therapy. Your clinician will explain the options, welcome your feedback, and work with you to identify strategies that feel useful and appropriate.
Whether you are navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, burnout, or a difficult life transition, our goal is to help you build understanding, strengthen coping skills, and move toward meaningful change at a pace that respects your needs.
